CHENNAI: A golf festival will be held on November 18 at the Bangalore Golf Club as part of EXCON 2007, the country’s largest construction equipment and construction technology trade fair. The event, organised by CII and “Rain,” will feature several CEOs from various parts of the country. While talking about the background and concept of the competition, N. Kumar, former President of CII and Vice-Chairman, Sanmar Group, said that sport was a unifying force and an avenue of social interaction. The CII was in the forefront of getting the large workforce in various sectors to come together. He emphasised that golf was one of the factors that contributed to a healthy social mix during seminars and exhibitions. With as many as 7,000 members representing several institutions, the CII has succeeded in pragmatic networking of different sections of the industry. The 2007 edition of the event is sponsored by “Rain” Spring Water of Taurus Beverages Ltd. It will be played on a Stableford format under three handicap categories — 0-8, 9-15 and 16-24 — with the winner and runner-up of each group earmarked for felicitations. Growing interestMr. Kumar was happy that there has been a growing interest for golf within the CII with more and more CEOs getting involved not only in playing but also coming forward with sponsorships. He mentioned Pawan Munjal, Siddarth Shriram, Dilip Thomas and Arun Bharat Ram among those who were ready to extend their support. The November 18 event, to be managed by Tiger Marketing, will be chaired by Mr. Kumar and co-chaired by Mr. C.P. Rangachar, former IMTMA President and former Chairman, CII. — Special Correspondent
