The product is greener, more eco-friendly It replaces the present silicon chips KOLKATA: The efforts of the West Bengal Government to showcase the State as an ideal investment destination took a beating on Monday as a major national product launch of Intel India scheduled to be held in the city had to be shifted out on account of the bandh. The event is now scheduled to be held in Bangalore on Tuesday according to company sources. Sources told The Hindu that six top Indian cities were normally on the company’s list for its product launches and in a round-robin series, Kolkata’s turn had come after a gap of about two years. The cities are: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore , Chennai and Hyderabad and also Pune at times. The launch has to keep pace with the worldwide timeline of a same day launch globally. The press launch in the morning was to have been followed by a meeting with IT managers, chief information officers and others in the evening. However, as it became clear that the opposition parties might disrupt movement, it was decided to call off the launch late on Sunday. While about 35 flights have operated to and from here on Monday, entering the city from the airport has been tough for the passengers. The product, a new family of chips that finds use in laptops, desktops and processors, is being billed as a significant launch as it was a greener and a more environment-friendly material replacing the present silicon chips. However, Intel is still keen on the State as an important market, notwithstanding the present phase of unrest, sources said.
