13 cos. in race for Tilaiya ultra-mega power project

NEW DELHI: The 4,000 MW Tilaiya Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) has drawn a good response from investors with Tata Power, Laren and Tubro and Reliance Energy leading the pack of 13 companies in race for the project.

Highly placed sources informed that Monday being the last date, the Power Finance Corporation, the nodal agency conducting bids for UMPPs, had received Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from 13 companies. The other top players, who have joined the race, include Sterlite, Lanco Infratech and the National Thermal Power Corporation.

The coal-fired project is at a pithead location in Jharkhand and would involve an estimated investment of more than Rs. 16,000 crore.

The companies will be given further information after proper evaluation within 15 days and the whole process is expected to be completed and the final letter of award would be issued in the next two months.
