Danilo Turk LJUBLJANA (Slovenia): Longtime Slovenian diplomat Danilo Turk became the third President as Slovenians looked for fresh faces in politics and sent a clear warning to the centre-right government, said analysts and media on Monday. The left-leaning Turk (55) won overwhelmingly, getting 68 per cent of votes in Sunday’s elections, with nearly all votes counted. His rival, conservative former Prime Minister Lojze Peterle, conceded defeat. Mr. Turk’s victory is “rather a reflection of voters’ non-support” for Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who supported Mr. Peterle and faces elections in a year, Dnevnik daily wrote. — AP
