VIJAYAWADA: Hyderabad and Krishna entered the junior boys final defeating Visakhapatnam (3-0) and Ranga Reddy (3-1) the Stag 31st AP inter-district championship at Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao indoor stadium here on Sunday. Anantapur and Hyderabad outplayed Krishna (3-1) and Ranga Reddy (3-1) in the semifinals in the women section. In the men’s section, Hyderabad made it to the final blanking East Godavari 3-0. Earlier, the organizing committee of the tournament felicitated SAI coach V. R. Mukkamala with Rs. 50,000 for his 34-year-long service to the game. Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association president Lagadapati Rajagopal was the chief guest. Important results: Junior boys (semifinals): Hyderabad bt Vizag 3-0, Krishna bt Ranga Reddy 3-1; First round: Ranga Reddy bt Warangal 3-0, Vizag bt Kurnool 3-0, West Godavari bt Prakasam 3-0, Krishna bt Nellore 3-0. Second round: Ranga Reddy bt WG 3-0, Vizag bt EG 3-1. Men: (semifinals): Hyderabad bt East Godavari 3-0; Quarterfinals: RR bt Vizag 3-1, East Godavari bt West Godavari 3-2; First round: Vizag bt Prakasam 3-0, Vizianagaram bt Kurnool 3-0, East Godavari bt Warangal 3-0, Hyderabad bt Nalgonda 3-0. Ch Punnaiah Choudary were elected as president and secretary respectively of Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association for the term of four years (2007-2011) in the general body meeting held at Chirala (Prakasam District) on Sunday. National chief coach Pullela Gopichand will be the advisor of the association. The meeting also resolved to conduct senior State men and women championship for 2008-2009 at Tirupati and State junior u-19 championship at Khammam. Srikakulam and Adilabad will host the State sub junior u-16 and u-13 tournaments respectively. “It is also resolved to request Badminton Association of India to allot senior Nationals to Vijayawada and junior or sub junior to Karimnagar,” said APBA secretary K. Ch Punnaiah Choudary.
