KSP retains title

Bangalore: KSP retained the ‘A’ division volleyball league title for the second successive year and for the fifth time in six years at the LBS College courts, watched by over 3,000 spectators here on Sunday.

The State police triumphed over CIL at 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 in 62 minutes. CIL, despite a good showing by Internationals Jagdish and Arun, failed miserably in the backcourt.

KSP despite losing International Prithviraj with a twisted knee, early in the second set, kept up the momentum with Sanoj stepping in to play the effective role. Ramesh Kanvi and Babu along with Arun Kumar and Nagaraj smashed well with Ravindra setting up the kill.

Earlier, MEG outclassed ITI in three straight sets at 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 to finish third. MEG, which suffered a shock defeat at the hands of CIL in straight sets in the semifinals on Saturday, was superior to the youthful ITI, which lacked in experience.

Meanwhile, in the semifinals on Saturday, CIL upstaged MEG 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 in under an hour, thanks to the brilliance of Arun, a guest player. In the other semifinal, KSP proved too good, defeating ITI 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 25-18 in 70 minutes.

HASC defeats MEG

HASC defeated MEG 1-0 in a State super-division league match at the Football Stadium here on Sunday.

Bimal Minz’s 41st minute strike helped HASC edge ahead. Red cards saw HASC being reduced to nine men and MEG to ten. HASC has 23 points from nine matches, while MEG has 23 from 10 outings.

Earlier, in an ‘A’ division league match, AGORC defeated SWRI 2-1. Kishore (25th) and Mathew (42nd) scored for the victor, while Dinesh chipped in SWRI’s lone goal in the 36th minute.

VSA girls win

Vidya Shilp Academy (VSA) won the girls’ under-12 title in the Ramesh Padukone memorial inter-school badminton tournament at the Canara Union courts here on Sunday.

In the final, Vidya Shilp Academy defeated Sri Kumarans Public School 2-0.
