NEW DELHI: Cavalry Black rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Cavalry Red 10-7 and win the Maharaja Hari Singh memorial Cup 14-goal polo tournament at the Jaipur Polo Ground here on Sunday. Ravi Rathore scored five goals to take the game away from Cavalry Red, which began with a bang by taking a 4-1 lead at the start of the third chukker. After Vishal Singh had put the Reds in the lead, Rathore scored the equaliser towards the end of the first chukker. Argentine Santiago de Estrada struck two early in the second chukker as the Reds pulled ahead 3-1. Estrada improved the score to 4-1 when he struck soon after resumption. Just as the final seemed to be slipping into a one-sided affair, the Blacks shot back through Rathore and Santiago Cernada to even the scores. Tunku Ismail Ibrahim scored after Estrada set up the pace as the Reds closed the third chukker 5-4. The fourth and penultimate chukker proved to be decisive. Though Estrada struck an early goal to increase the Reds’ lead by two goals, Rathore slammed in two while Cernada and Tarun Sirohi struck one each as the Blacks rallied to take an 8-6 lead. Estrada sped solo to reduce the lead, but Blacks’ captain Sirohi struck a brace before the final hooter. — Principal Correspondent
