Muthoot-ECC triumphs

KOCHI: The seasoned P.V. Manikandan’s sparkling 81 (69 balls, 6x6, 4x4) helped Muthoot-Ernakulam Cricket Club defeat host Cordiant-Tripunithura CC by five wickets and win the first phase final of the 57th Cordiant-Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Sunday.

This is Muthoot-ECC’s maiden victory in the event.

Both teams qualified for the tournament’s main phase which begins on November 18.

The scores: Cordiant-TCC, Ekm 249 in 45 overs (P. Ramkumar 70) lost to Muthoot-ECC, Ekm 251 for five in 42.4 overs (P.V. Manikandan 81, Pradeep 50, Jiju Janardhanan 44). — Principal Correspondent
