SHIMLA: The four-day-long Lavi trade fair was inaugurated on Sunday by the State Governor Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje at Rampur in Shimla district. Peasants from all over Kinnaur and remote parts of rural Shimla get together and sell dry fruits, woollen garments, agricultural implements and handicraft items during the fair. The farmers preparing for a prolonged winters in the upper regions make their purchase at the trade fair. Small traders from the plains of Punjab and Delhi also come to sell their goods here. Inaugurating the fair, the State Governor said that Lavi fair had its own old historical importance and was famous for its varied business activities. He said that laudable efforts were made to preserve the old traditions of the fair over the years.
