Warangal in last four

HYDERABAD: Warangal defeated East Godavari 19-12 to enter the semifinals of the senior inter-district handball championship for men at the Gymkhana ground here on Saturday. Anwar was the top-scorer for the winner with six goals.

In another quarterfinal, Hyderabad scored a far more comfortable, 31-15 win over Karimnagar. A. Tirumal Reddy (8) was the main scorer, while Srinivas (7) put up a good show for the loser. In the semifinal on Sunday, Warangal will clash with Prakasham and Vizag will play Hyderabad.

Other results: Quarterfinals: Prakasham bt Kadapa 26-21; Vizag bt Kurnool 22-12.

SBH scores win

State Bank of Hyderabad scored a 2-0 win over AG (Andhra Pradesh) in the super league of the SAAP Premier League prize money football tournament at Gymkhana ground here.

After a barren first half, SBH shot into the lead courtesy an own goal by stopper Prabhakar in the 51st minute. In the dying minutes, SBH completed the tally with a solo effort from Ali Khan.

In another match, South Central Railway and EME Centre were locked in a goalless draw.

Ramesh in joint lead

M. Ramesh, with four points, shared the lead with Praveen Prasad and P.V.V. Seshu at the end of fourth round in the 15th annual YMCA Tatipalli Gopalakrishna memorial prize money open chess tournament at Narayanaguda YMCA here.

Eighteen teams will be in the fray of the fourth inter-school hockey tournament for V. Purushotham Memorial Trophy at Gymkhana ground from November 18.

The league-cum-knock-out event will have the final on November 26.

Sub-junior volleyball

Vijayawada will host the AP sub-junior volleyball championship for boys and girls from November 28 to December 2.
