MANGALORE: Five hundred aspiring Haj pilgrims from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be counselled by religious leaders at the Town Hall here on November 12. The programme has been organised by the minorities cell of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee. The pilgrims will be given tips on how to conduct themselves in an alien country. Making this announcement, Moinuddin Bawa, president of the minorities cell, said that all attempts would be made to ensure optimum dispersion of welfare measures earmarked for the minorities by the State and Union governments. He conveyed the intentions of the cell to promote communal harmony by organising events for various communities in the lead-up to Christmas. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson, M.G. Hegde, took the opportunity to air his doubts on the longevity of the renewed ties between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular). “The two conflicting ideologies will never survive in tandem, and their alliance was doomed from the beginning,” he said. He asked the BJP leadership to clarify their stand on the Bababudangiri issue, considering that the party was back in an alliance with the JD(S). He sought clarification on the Rama Sethu issue and the party’s Hindutva agenda in the State.
