Andhra Loyola triumphs

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Loyola College defeated SRR & CVR College by 27 runs in the Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-collegiate (North Zone) final at ALC grounds on Friday. ALC made 201 in 35 overs and restricted SRR & CVR to 174.

The scores: ALC 201 in 35 overs (R.L.V. Prasad 75, Irfan 43) bt SRR & CVR 174 in 35 overs (Mastan 74, Ashok four for 24).

Death mourned

Former Olympian, Arjuna awardee and international weightlifter Kamineni Eswara Rao (83) passed away here on Wednesday night.

Eswara Rao represented India in the 1952 (Helsinki) and 1956 (Melbourne) Olympic Games in weightlifting and had set many records in national competitions.

He received the Arjuna Award from President S. Radhakrishna in 1963. Several sportspersons, coaches, administrators and people’s representatives offered floral tributes to the departed soul.

SPC, PVP SIT win

Siddhartha Pharmacy College, PVP SIT Engineering College posted victories in the KDCA college league tournament here on Thursday.

The scores: Siddhartha Law College 76 in 22 overs (Pathan four for 25) lost to Siddhartha Pharmacy College 77 for four in 10 overs.

Kakatiya College 56 in 15.2 overs lost to PVP SIT Engineering College 57 for three in 9 2. overs.

Inter-district carrom

The Andhra Carrom Association will host the junior and youth inter-district championship for boys and girls at LVR & Sons Club at Guntur from November 16 to 19, according to ACA secretary Sk. Jaleel here on Friday. Over 150 players from 13 districts are taking part in the tournament.

NTRUHS tennis team

A six-member Dr NTR University of Health Sciences tennis (men) team will take part in the South Zone inter-university championship to be held at VT University (Belgaum) from November 12 to 15.

The team: T.D.V. Kumar Reddy, Rahul, V. Narasimha Rao, Y. Pradeep, Y. Siva Prasad, N. Satyanarayana Reddy. Coach: Sunil Kumar, physical director, Government Medical College, Anantapur.

Gannavaram school wins title

The girls’ volleyball team of St John’s HSS, Gannavaram won the CBSE cluster-level (AP and Karnataka) championship held at BVB Kamala Rani Sanghi Public School from November 1 to 3.

The school team has qualified to take part in the CBSE national-level tournament to be held at Chandigarh.
