COIMBATORE: Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) launched three nation-awakening caravans from Kerala, West Bengal and Delhi on November 3, 4 and 5, which will converge in a conference in Mumbai on November 25. Conducted under the theme ‘Redefining Education-Regaining Struggle-Renovating Society SIO Awakening the Nation’, the caravans and the conference mark the silver jubilee of SIO’s activism in the country. The caravan reached Tamil Nadu on November 7. It plans to cover Coimbatore, Tirupur, Tiruchirapalli, Krishnagiri, Vaniyambadi, Thiruvallur and Chennai for four days. Press meets, corner meets, symposia and educational meets will be held. The programmes will be to address the limitations of the contemporary educational systems, commercialisation of education and other educational issues in different states. It will also deal with the growing dispassionate attitude of the youth community towards society and reiterate the need to revamp society. Rashid Gannushi, contemporary Islamic thinker and scholar, will inaugurate the meet on November 25. British Member of Parliament George Galloway will inaugurate the public session.
