MADURAI: The State Government would take steps to introduce the ‘Nootrukku Nooru’ scheme across the State, said Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education, here on Tuesday. Launching the scheme in Madurai, he said that it was aimed at enhancing the performance of the students in the board examinations by imparting special training to X and XII standard students. The ministry was taking efforts to identify students who failed in single and twin subjects besides monitoring students’ performance in quarterly and half-yearly examinations, he added. The State Government had waived off the examination fees and had also initiated steps to fill up all teacher vacancies. Moreover, ban on mobile phones was a conscious effort to prevent students from being distracted, he said. He urged the district administration to organise medical camps in schools. The Minister released a brochure which contained details about the scheme and awards for students, teachers and school administration. Collector S.S. Jawahar said that the scheme, which was launched in Virudhunagar district, had yielded better results and hence the same was launched in Madurai also. The cluster approach would be a sincere attempt to encourage exchange of thoughts and notes, he said. All students who secured 475 marks and above in X Standard and 1,150 marks and above in the XII Standard examinations would be given gold medals, he said and added that schools which scored centum pass percentage would be honoured with awards. He said that the headmasters and subject teachers of that school would also be awarded. Chief Educational Officers, R. Pandurangan and K. Sridevi (SSA), took part. The scheme was launched at a workshop involving teachers, students, members of parent-teacher association, non Governmental organisations and medical professionals.
