THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Andhra was in a position of strength against Goa at the end of the first day’s play in the South Zone Polly Umrigar Trophy under-15 cricket tournament at the Agriculture College ground here on Monday. Off-spinner N.L.V. Subba Reddy turned out to be Goa’s nemesis as he took five for 20 to skittle out the Goans for 79 runs. At stumps, Andhra had taken the first innings lead. Kerala came up with a much-improved performance against Tamil Nadu at the Agriculture College ground. The host was 181 for six when rain stopped play. C.A. Mathew (37), Abhishek Mohan (33) and Aditya (31 batting) chipped in with useful knocks to prop up the innings. At the Medical College ground, Vinay Rao took seven for 93 to check the progress of Karnataka which was dismissed for 267 in its first innings. Rain curtailed the Hyderbad reply to just three balls. The scores: Goa 79 in 68.1overs (N.L.V. Subba Reddy five for 20) vs Andhra 80 for four in 37.4 overs (Vikram Surya Teja 33, Naren Reddy 31). Kerala 181 for six in 72 overs (C.A. Mathew 37, Abhishek Mohan 33, Ashiq Srinivas four for 40) vs Tamil Nadu. Karnataka 267 in 77.5 overs (Amal Raj 57, V. Vikram 41, Shreyas Gopal 37, Vinay Rao seven for 93) vs Hyderabad zero for no loss in 0.3 overs. — Principal Correspondent
