Krishna Kiriti bags a double

HYDERABAD: Krishna Kiriti of Hyderabad Postal bagged a double winning the singles title and being a member of the winning team in the Reliance Money inter-institutional table tennis tournament at AWA Sports Academy here.

In the singles Kiriti defeated Manohar Kumar (Oriental Insurance) 13-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 7-11, 11-8 in a close final.

The speed and stamina of the young Kiriti came in handy against the seasoned campaigner. Kiriti stunned his opponent with smashing backhand shots.

Earlier, Kiriti got the better of Arundhar of SCR while Manohar put it across N.N. Kishore in the semifinals. In the team championship final, Hyderabad Postal scored a 2-0 win over South Central Railway.

Mir Khasim Ali, Arjuna Awardee, gave away the prizes.

In a welcome gesture, Lions Club of Hyderabad Pancharathan, represented by Somisetty Srinivas, felicitated B. Manohar Kumar of Oriental Insurance for his contribution to the game and also the retired SAI coach V.R. Mukkamala.

The results:

Team event: Final: Hyderabad Postal bt SCR 2-0 (Krishna Kiriti bt Somnath Ghosh 13-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-5; Kiriti / Deepesh bt Somnath / Arundhar 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-9).

Semifinals: Hyd Postal bt SBI 3-2.

SCR bt BSNL 2-0.

Easy for EME

EME Centre scored a 3-1 win over Hyderabad Sporting in the SAAP Premier League prize money football tournament at the Gymkhana Grounds here. Rajesh Mathew converted a spot kick in the 16th minute to put EME ahead.

Within three minutes Parjith struck the second goal for EME. However, Sporting fought back well to reduce the margin through Khader’s solo effort.

In the second session, Sandeep Singh scored the third goal for EME to clinch the issue comfortably.

Satyam in semifinals

Satyam Computers entered the semifinals with a 64-31 win over ADP India in the basketball tournament of the third JDA Corporate Olympiad sports meet here.

The scores:

Cricket: Deloitte Consulting 164 (Srinivas 64, Sridhar four for 35) bt Vertex India 64.

SBH ‘B’ 176 for three (Rajeev 41, Shakeel 51 not out, Ganesh 48 not out) bt Tech Solutions 62 (Srihari 41).

The Hindu 199 for seven (Venkat Swaroop 43) bt Soma Enterprises 67 (Satish four for 13).

Gati Cargo 221 for eight (Samson 49, Vikram 43, Jai Raj 43) bt Aegis BPO 109 (Fahad 44).

Capgemini 86 for eight lost to TCS 87 for five.

Monster.com 144 for five (Ravikiran 93 not out) lost to UBS II 148 for four (Jagannath 62 not out).

Gameloft 103 for eight (Krishna four for 23) lost to Microsoft 108 for no loss (Srikanth Putha 55 not out).
