Erode BSNL gets national award

ERODE: Telecom department has adjudged the Erode district BSNL as the Best Maintained Urban area BSNL in all India level and presented the ‘Best Maintained Telephone System’ award.

General manager V. Sundar told media persons here on Monday that the Erode district BSNL had already received such an award in 2004-05.

He said that the Erode telecom district was the first district in all India level to get the ISO 9001-2000 certificate.

At present, as many as 1,65,761 landline telephones were functioning in the district and the scope for increasing the number was more.

Similarly, 11,137 WLL phone connections were there in the district with 30 WLL towers. Works on some more towers were in progress at Kasipalayam, Vadamugam Vellode and Thingalure.

Regarding broadband connections, Mr. Sundar said that there were 5,062 connections in Erode and 2,000 more connections would be given before the end of December.

By the end of March 2008, it would reach the 10,000 mark.

He said that the cellular service had reached a commendable level in the district with 1,17,516 pre-paid and 17,369 post paid connections.

At present, 126 towers were erected and soon towers would be erected at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Loganathapuram and Perundurai Kongunagar.
