AMRITSAR: Unbeaten knocks by U. Kaul (79) and old hand P. Dharmani (63) and their unfinished 117-run partnership for the fourth wicket helped Punjab raise a healthy 173 for three at stumps in reply to Andhra’s 334 on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy super league match here on Sunday.

Earlier, Andhra added 40 runs to its overnight score. Punjab started shakily, losing three wickets with 56 runs on the board before Kaul and Dharmani got together to provide the lifeline.

Raina’s double century

Suresh Raina raised a double century (203, 27x4, 2x6) as U.P. posted 410 for seven in reply to Orissa’s 216 at Cuttack.

Equally facile was Manoj Tiwary’s unbeaten 147 (19x4, 2x6) for Bengal on the opening day against Hyderabad in Kolkata.

In Delhi there was a virtual procession of batsmen on a day when 20 wickets tumbled. Delhi was first bundled out for 119 with Pankaj Singh bagging five wickets but recoiled to skittle out Rajasthan for 85.
