Rain plays havoc

CHENNAI: Only 3.2 overs were possible on a rain-hit second day of the Ranji Trophy super league match between Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Sunday’s start was delayed by two hours. Maharashtra furthered its overnight score of 261 for four by 11 runs when bad light halted play. The heavy shower that followed forced the umpires to call play off at 4 p.m.

Yogesh Takawale, whose aggressive half-century helped Maharashtra seize the momentum on Saturday afternoon, added eight runs to his overnight score to finish unbeaten on 60 (76b, 9x4, 1x6). With him was Vishal Bhilare (0).

Play will be extended by 30 minutes on both Monday and Tuesday — with the time added to the middle session, and the scheduled close shifted to 5 p.m. — to make up for Sunday’s loss. The forecast, however, isn’t encouraging.
