Ex gratia to contract employee’s family sought

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Medical and Health Contract Employees’ Association on Sunday demanded payment of Rs. 4 lakh as ex gratia and employment to a member of the family of Veerakumar, a male health assistant, who died following a heart attack in Kadapa.

In a statement here, N. Ashok, president, Andhra Pradesh BC Welfare Association said that Veerakumar had telephoned, with anguish to many during the last two days that the government did not respond to the 22-day relay fast by the employees here seeking regularisation of 2,300 contract male health assistants. He had also threatened to launch a ‘fast-unto-death’ here from November 6.
