Randhawa soars to tied third, Jeev slips

Sotogrande (Spain): Defending champion Jeev Milkha Singh’s title defence is as good as over after he carded a three-over 74 to slide to tied 35th even though compatriot Jyoti Randhawa continued his ascent and fired a 70 to soar to tied third after the second round of the Volvo Masters golf here on Saturday.

Randhawa, the 2004 Volvo Masters of Asia champion, produced yet another solid round for a two-day total of one-over 143 to join Miguel Angel Jimenez (70), Soren Kjeldsen (70) and Graeme McDowell (75) at the third place after the half way stage.

Englishman Justin Rose (68) grabbed the lead carding best round of the day for a halfway total of 138, four strokes ahead of his chief European Tour Order of Merit rival Padraig Harrington (71).

Cabrera in lead

U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera shot a one-under 70 to double his lead to four strokes after the third round of the Singapore Open.

Shiv tied seventh

India’s Shiv Kapur (69), Japan’s Tetsuji Hiratsuka (73), South Africa’s Keith Horne (74) and Australia’s Gavin Flint (74) were tied for seventh place at one under.

Atwal slumps to 55th

At Lakeside (U.S.), Arjun Atwal’s 2008 PGA Tour card hopes lay in tatters after the Orlando-based Indian shot himself in the foot with a horrendous second round of four-over 75 in the Nationwide Tour championship.

Michael Letzig fired 66 to grab the pole position with an astonishing 36-hole total of 16 under par, four shots better than Richard Johnson and five better than leading money winner Roland Thatcher and Tom Scherrer. — Agencies
