NEW DELHI: Sohail Tanvir is Pakistan’s new budding batting all-rounder. But his unusual bowling action has already caught the eye of the discerning and fans alike. For this Wasim Akram-admirer, who started as a left-arm spinner and switched to fast bowling, there is no question of altering his bowling action. “I did not realise that my action looked different until I saw it on television. It’s natural and not developed,” assured Tanvir when answering questions from mediapersons here on Saturday. Having made his one-day debut last month against South Africa and picked up three wickets in four outings, Tanvir is looking ahead to bowling to some of the Indian greats. “I agree, it is a great honour to get an opportunity to bowl to players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. At the same time, I am not overawed by the names. Self-belief is the key and bowling well is all about confidence. It should not matter to whom you are bowling,” said the Rawalpindi man who will turn 23 on December 12, the last day of the current tour. Tanvir said India’s pace attack was the best in a long time. Talking about Pakistan’s pace bowlers, he said, “In spite of (Mohammad) Asif’s absence, I think we have a good attack. It is a good combination of pace and seam. Of course, we know what to expect from the sub-continent’s pitches.” — Special Correspondent
