Top players for State-ranking badminton

Bangalore: The season-ending badminton championship in the State — The Wearhouse State-ranking tournament — will be held at the KBA courts and Sadhashivanagar Club courts here from November 3 to 8.

The event, which is being sponsored by Gokuldas Exports, has attracted 370 entries in all sections and though it comes at the fag end of the calendar, all the leading players have confirmed their participation. At stake is a total prize-money of Rs. 90,000.

The matches will be played at the KBA courts during the preliminary phase before moving to the Sadhashivanagar Club courts from the last 16 stage.

V. Amar and Monisha Vinayak are the top seeds in the men’s and women’s singles.

The top seeds in other events: Boys: Under-10 singles: Mithun Manjunath; Under-13: S. Siddarth; Under-16: Ajay Patil; Under-19: Prakash Jolly. Girls: Under-10: Mahima Agarwal; Under-13: Reshma Karthik; Under-16: Uttara Prakash; Under-19: Ankita Ashok; Veterans: Jayaram Pai.

Double for Karthik

It was a fine double for C.P. Karthik and R. Madhuri in the M.S. Ramaiah memorial State-ranking table tennis championship which concluded at the Prakash courts here on Wednesday.

Karthik (LIC) won the youth boys’ singles title with a 11-6, 11-9, 12-10, 13-11 victory over A.R. Navneeth in the final and annexed the men’s singles title beating Samson Selvakumar of Canara Bank 11-5, 14-12, 13-11, 9-11, 11-3.

R. Madhuri won the youth girls’ singles and women’s singles titles. In the women’s final, Madhuri humbled SAI teammate C. Subashree 11-5, 11-5, 14-12, 11-8. Earlier, she had scored a hard-fought 8-11, 11-2, 11-7, 11-4, 12-14, 9-11, 11-8 win over N. Poojitha of Horizon Club.

C.S. Jagdish of Malleswaram Association won the veterans’ title with a 9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 12-10 verdict over H.K. Umesh of RBI.

BY triumphs

Bangalore Youngsters (BY) defeated BEML Rail Coach 2-0, scoring once in each half, in the `C’ division football championship at the ITI grounds here on Thursday. Janardhan (25th) and Shamira (55th) were the scorers.

Wednesday’s results: Bangalore Yellows 2 (Anand 2) bt Crescent FC 1 (Prasad); Active FC 1 (Sandeep) bt Hoskote SC 0.

Postal pips SH

Postal defeated Sports Hostel 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 15-11 in the State ‘A’ division volleyball league at the L.B. Shastri courts here on Thursday. The match lasted 80 minutes. Earlier on Wednesday, KSP defeated ITI 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.

‘B’ div. hockey league

The State ‘B’ division hockey league will begin at the KSHA Stadium here on November 5.

The teams: Pool A: HMT, AGORC, SBI, Rainbow HC and Hassan HC; Pool B: CMP, BSNL, BEML (KGF), Sports Hostel (Kudige) and Vasu SC Hubli; Pool C: MEG Boys, Bombers HC, Rangers HC, Mysore District Hockey Association and Shree Hanuman Blessings HC Gadag; Pool D: SWR-Hubli, ASC Boys, Coorg HA, Primrose HC, Metro HC and Om Sai SA, Dharwad.

Austin, Shalini to lead

J. Austin and N. Shalini will lead the Karnataka handball men’s and women’s teams in the senior South Zone handball championship at Puducherry from November 2 to 4.

The team: Men: J. Austin (Capt.), T.P. Shinoj, L. Amara, Prince Jones, Srinivas, L. Augustine, Sarvana Kumar, Anand Kumar, P. Rakhal, Nagendra, Raghavendra, Anantharam and Siddalingesh.

Women: N. Shalini (Capt.), Umadevi, H.R. Lakshmi, Madhavi, Shilpa Yogesh, R. Pavana, S.V. Poornima, Hemalatha, Swapna, Mahalakshmi, Spoorthi, Sohili, Kajal Sharma, S. Shruthi and M. Rohini.

Hosur CA tournament

The Hosur Chess Academy’s monthly tournament for children will be held at the Ayyappa Temple in Jayanagar on November 4.

Postponed again

The Super division and ‘A’ division football league matches, scheduled to resume at the BDFA Stadium in Ashok Nagar here on Thursday, have been postponed by a day due to water logging of the ground following overnight rains.

Kensri School tournament

The Kensri School futures tournament, which will have competitions in basketball, cricket and volleyball, will commence at the School premises here on November 3. Entries close on Nov. 2. Call the Kensri School (65604705) for details.

Volleyball trials

The Karnataka Volleyball Association will conduct selection trials on November 10 and 11 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here to choose the State squad for the 30th sub-junior National championship at Renukoot from December 12 to 18.
