Magistrate complains of intimidation by advocates

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A Metropolitan Magistrate here has complained to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice A.P. Shah, that a group of advocates abused and intimidated him inside his chamber in the Egmore court premises.

In his complaint, the V Metropolitan Magistrate, S. Muruganandam, named two advocates practising in the Egmore court, and said they, accompanied by several others, barged into his chambers and ransacked it.

Earlier, enraged at the dismissal of a bail petition filed by the two advocates, they used abusive language in the court hall itself, he alleged.

Mr. Muruganandam was accompanied by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ramarajan.

The Tamil Nadu Judicial Officers Association general secretary R. Paranjothi condemned the incident.

He called upon the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu to initiate penal action against the “delinquent advocates.”
