Fine arts centre enters 30th year

TIRUCHI: In a star-studded show, the Kalai Kaviri Arts and Communications Centre entered into its 30th year and effected a name change.

The centre, which has been teaching folk arts to people of backward classes and those from the lower strata of society, will henceforth be known as Kaviri Communications.

Presiding over the function, Bishop of Tiruchi Diocese Rev. Fr. Antony Devotta said Kaviri communications had created waves among the city residents through its activities in the field of fine arts.

The function marked the release of a DVD, CD and cassettes comprising eight songs of Subramania Bharathi and Bharathidasan.

Students from educational Institutions, including Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Holy Cross Girls Higher Secondary School, Periyar Memorial Matriculation Higher Secondary School, St. Philomenas Girls Higher Secondary School, St. Annes Girls Higher Secondary School, Arockiamatha Matriculation Higher Secondary School and St. James Matriculation Higher Secondary School, staged dance performances for each of the songs.

Television anchor James Vasanthan and film lyricist Yugabharathi offered felicitations. Founder of Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts Fr. George Adigalar and centre director K. Charles spoke.
