CHICAGO: Lightweight pugilist Jai Bhagwan scampered through a tough contest to move one step closer to Olympic qualification at the World boxing championship here on Sunday. Asian bronze medallist Bhagwan joined Jitender Kumar and A.L. Lakra as three Indians remained in the fray after eight started in the quest for Olympic quota berths here. On the sixth day of the championship, Bhagwan’s 23-16 win against Vasil Qazishvili of Georgia, provided some more hope for the Indian team. The other boxer in the fray, Dilbag Singh, however, crashed out against his Serbian opponent. Bhagwan now takes on Darley Perez of Colombia in the pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday. The last Indian in the second round, welterweight Dilbag Singh disappointed with his sloppy boxing. On Tuesday, Lakra will be the lone Indian on show.
