Murali claims four in drawn match

ADELAIDE: Star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan took four wickets for 121 runs to lead Sri Lanka’s bowlers in a drawn three-day tour match against the Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI which ended on Monday.

Muralitharan, on 700 Test wickets, will attempt to overtake retired Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne’s record of 708 during Sri Lanka’s two-Test series against Australia. The first Test begins from November 8 in Brisbane and the second from November 16 in Hobart.

Sri Lanka scored 368 for six declared in its first innings at the Adelaide Oval before the Chairman’s XI overtook that total by 41 runs with 409 in its first innings.

The scores: Sri Lanka 368 for six decl. and 125 for three (M. Jayawardene 52, T. Samaraweera 41 not out) drew with Chairman’s XI 409 (T. Plant 124 not out, L. Mash 95, M. Muralitharan four for 121).
