Rohit Bisht moves up

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Qualifier Rohit Bisht fought back from the brink of defeat to beat Sorachet Uyaporn of Thailand 2-6, 7-6(8), 6-3 in the first round of the Asia-Oceania ITF junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Monday.

On a day when the National sub-junior champion Prateek Bhambri had no answer to Vijayant Malik, the top players had a smooth sailing into the second round in a draw of 64.

Yuki Bhambri was, of course, in roaring form as he did not drop a game while getting past lucky-loser Ashish Rana.

In the girls’ section, in which the top three players, including the second-seeded Poojashree Venkatesh, had a bye, Rashmi Teltumbe defeated Natchanok Saenyaukhot of Thailand 7-6(4), 6-7(0), 6-4 to set up a second round clash with Inayat Khosla.
