BANGALORE: Pioneer Corps Training Centre defeated ASC Centre 2-1 and claimed the title in the D.S. Murthy and V. Karunakaran memorial hockey tournament at the KSHA Stadium here on Saturday. PCTC went ahead in the 15th minute through Cyprial Aind, but Tetes equalised for ASC in the 31st minute. PCTC struck a minute before the break with Senthil Mudu finding the board with a rasping drive. Both teams frittered a few penalty corners in the second session and PCTC hung onto its slender lead. In the third place play-off, Karnataka State Police beat Maratha Light Infantry 3-2. Special awards: Best half-back: Hardeep Singh (ASC); Best forward: Cyprian Aind (PCTC); Best back: Mohan Kunmar (KSP); Best goalkeeper: Altaf (MLI); Player of the tournament: Noel Dodrey (MEG Boys). Narrow win for HASCHindusthan Aeronautics Sports Club prevailed over Jayanagar SC 48-44 after leading 33-29 at the break in the State ‘A’ division basketball championship. In the other matches, Vijaya Bank crushed NAL Sports Club 58-16 while MEG defeated Koramangala BC 46-29. In another tie, ASC beat Karnataka State Police 59-44. JIRS triumphsJain International Residential School (Bangalore) and Lawrence School (Udhagamandalam) bagged the u-19 boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the CBSE South Zone inter-school hockey tournament at the JIRS camps on Saturday. In the boys’ final, JIRS beat Ivy League Academy (Hyderabad) 3-1. Lawrence crushed BVB School BHEL (Hyderabad) 8-0 in the girls’ final. A splendid display by Upasana Sharma who scored five goals marked Lawrence’s big win. Double for MSRITHost M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology won the men’s and women’s s titles in the M.S. Ramaiah memorial inter-engineering college basketball tournament here. In the men’s final, MSRIT defeated R.N. Institute of Technology 56-54, while in the women’s section MSRIT beat P.E.S. Institute of Technology 37-31. Ashwin Shetty of SIT and Sindhu were adjudged most valuable players in the men’s and women’s sections.
