“Ordinance on mini-buses at appropriate time”

Special Correspondent

Early end to impasse sought

CHENNAI: Transport Minister K.N. Nehru has said a decision on allowing mini-buses on more routes linking villages with nearby towns will be taken after discussions with Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Replying to a question from Vidiyal Sekar (Congress) he said since there were some cases in court on the issue, the Government was considering issuing an ordinance at an appropriate time. The mini-buses were of enormous benefit to people. His department was seized of the issue.

Mr. Sekar wanted an early end to the impasse and demanded mini-buses on all routes where it was not profitable to run bigger buses.
