GUNTUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday organized a massive dharna in front of the district Collector’s office here demanding inclusion of all eligible from municipal divisions of Guntur in the list of beneficiaries under Indiramma Housing Scheme. About 5,000 people came to Collector’s office, blocked the road and submitted a memorandum seeking pattas to all the people staying in government lands or were assigned lands, and housing under ISHDP as Rs.40,000 per unit under Indiramma was not enough to construct houses. Party State leader Krishnaiah, district secretary D. Rama Devi addressed party activists and submitted some 9,000 applications for houses and land pattas. Guntur-I MLA Nambur Sheik Subhani, who was there at the time, assured the agitators to take the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the party had begun padayatras in city this week. Party secretary Rama Devi said the CPI(M) conducted a sample survey in 10 divisions and found several ineligible names in the lists for housing scheme.
