RKS Kalvi Nilayam wins

Coimbatore: Timely half centuries by R. Yogesh Kumar and M.N. Yogeshwaran helped R.K.S. Kalvi Nilayam HSS upset favourite Sree Jayendra Saraswathy by 78 runs to emerge champion of the TNCA-Boost Cup under-17 inter-school cricket tournament at the Forest College grounds here on Tuesday.

In a match that was reduced to 30 overs a side due to overcast conditions, RKS, put to bat, posted 146 for seven.

Chasing a target of less than five an over, Jayendra hurried but faltered miserably. Off-spinner C. Gowtham, who put the brakes on the opposition with a four-wicket haul, was declared the man of the final.

RKS will now play the winners of the Cuddalore and Salem division in a round robin format to be played at the Forest College grounds in Coimbatore from October 18 to 20.

The scores (final): RKS Kalvi Nilayam 146 for seven in 30 overs (R. Yogesh Kumar 51, M.N. Yogeshwaran 50) bt Sree Jayendra Saraswathy 68 for eight in 30 overs (C. Gowthan four for 18).
