NEW DELHI: World record holder high jumper Javier Sotomayor will be visiting the capital here as the brand ambassador for the Vodaphone Delhi half-marathon to be held on October 28.
The 40-year-old Sotomayor, who holds the world record of 2.45m, will do motivational talk sessions as a prelude to the Delhi half-marathon.
Sotomayor has a rare dominance in the history of high jump. Of the 24 all-time best jumps, 17 are his.
He has cleared 2.40 metres more times than any other athlete and is the only person to have cleared eight feet.
The last time he cleared 2.40m was on March 25, 1995 at the Pan American Games in Argentina. No one has jumped higher since.
