NEW DELHI: D. Harika suffered a surprise loss to Polish girl Jolanta Zawadzka to surrender her overnight half-point sole lead but continued to be in joint lead after the girls’ 11th round of the World junior chess championship at Yerevan, Armenia, on Sunday. Harika, Jolanta and Russia’s Vera Nebolsina share the lead with 8.5 points. Two more rounds remain in the competition. In the open category, Abhijeet Gupta’s loss to Egypt’s Ahmed Adly was a big blow to India’s slim medal hopes. Parimarjan Negi and G. Rohit won and joined Gupta on seven points. Russia’s Ivan Popov, seeded 11, leads the field with 8.5 points. The results (involving Indians): Open: Abhijeet Gupta (7) lost to Ahmed Adly (Egy, 8); G. Rohit (7) bt Wesley So (Phi, 6); G.N. Gopal (6.5) drew with Fidel Corrales (Cub, 6.5); Hrant Melkumyan (Arm, 6) lost to Parimarjan Negi (7); Deepan Chakkravarthy (6.5) bt Daan Brandenburg (Ned, 6); Yuri Hambardzumian (Arm, 5.5) lost to Aswin Jayaram (6.5); Abhishek Das (4.5) drew with Thibaut Vandenbussche (Bel, 4.5); Issam Zemouli (Alg, 3.5) bt Arun Karthik (4.5). Girls: Jolanta Zawadzka (Pol, 8.5) bt D. Harika (8.5); Anna Gasik (Pol, 6.5) lost to P.
