New Delhi: The Election Commission has transferred six top police officials of Gujarat including the Director-General of Police, P.C. Pandey, and two district collectors to ensure fair and elections. Top sources in the Commission said that Mr. Pandey was the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner during the 2002 riots and he superseded two officers to become the DGP. N.D Solanki, SP Rajkot, was the Sabharkanta SP and S.K. Gadhavi SP of Tapi district at that time. In a communication to the State government, the Commission said that these officers, on transfer, would not be given any election-related work/post. It said that Mr. Solanki, Mr. Gadhavi and the two Collectors should not be posted in the same district/place even in any other capacity. The Commission asked the government to send a panel comprising names of three suitable officers for each of the aforesaid posts by 5 p.m. of October 16 for its consideration and selection of suitable officers.
