Wayanad in quarterfinals

THIRUVANANTHAPUARM: Wayanad crushed Pathanamthitta 6-1 to storm into the quarterfinals of the 34th State under-19 inter-district football tournament at the Central Stadium here on Monday.

Strikers Shajeer (4th & 47th) and Muneer (17th & 65th) struck braces each as Wayanad overwhelmed its rival.

Pathanamthitta could never recover from the early setback. Sajan Daniel reduced the margin for Pathanamthitta against the run of play in the 60th minute. Noushad (25th) and Sreenath (63rd) scored the other two goals for the winner.

Kollam defeated Palakkad 3-2 via tie-breaker to enter the quarterfinals. Both teams failed to score during regulation time. Malappuram also advanced into the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Kottayam via tie-breaker. The teams were level 1-1 at end of regulation time. Idukki completed the quarterfinal line-up with a 5-4 win over Kasaragod after both teams drew 1-1 at the end of regulation time. — Principal Correspondent
