JMC wins title

TIRUCHI: Jamal Mohammed College defeated Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College 4-1 in tie-breaker to win the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate hockey tournament for women here.

The results: Final: Jamal Mohammed bt Shrimathi Indira Gandhi 4-1 (in tie-breaker). Third place: Holy Cross bt MR College 2-0.

St. Joseph’s qualifies

Host Jamal Mohammed College and St. Joseph’s College qualified for the Bharathidasan University inter-zonal ball badminton tournament from the Tiruchi Zone.

The results: Semifinals: St. Joseph’s bt Periyar EVR 29-6, 29-5; Jamal Mohammed bt Urumu Dhanalakshmi 29-16, 29-9. Third place (Tiruchi Zone): Urumu Dhanalakshmi bt Periyar EVR 29-16, 22-29, 29-25.

Selection trials

Trials to select the Tiruchi district team for the State junior football championship for the T.P. Ramasamy Pillai Cup will be held at the Tepplakulam Bishop HSS, Tiruchi, on October 16 and 17 at 5 p.m. (on both days). For details, contact Ramasame, ph: 6532562.

SIT triumphs

Sethu Institute of Technology defeated Thyagaraja College of Engineering 44-17 to clinch the title in the Anna University inter-collegiate (Zone IX) basketball tournament for women at Pudukottai.

Host Sudharsan Engineering College finished third.

The results: Final: Sethu Institute of Technology 44 (Selvakani 14, Jenipa 12) bt Thyagaraja CE 17. Third place: Sudharsan EC 27 (V. Vijayasaro 13) bt AC Tech 15.
