Sumer and Jayawant dominate

Chennai: Sumer Malhotra of Sishya and Jayawant Vijaykumar of Chettinad Vidyashram dominated the events in the Sishya annual inter-school aquatics meet at the SDAT Aquatics Complex, Velachary. The competition was organised by Sishya PTA for children below 13 years.

Chettinad Vidyashram with 104 won the team championship followed by Lady Andal with 80 points.

Over 200 children drawn from 26 institutions took part in the event. Olympian and Arjuna Award winner, Sebastian Xavier presided and gave away the prizes.

Writers in last four

Writers BC defeated United SC (Vellore) 45-31 in the quarterfinals of the G.K. Moopanar memorial basketball tournament, conducted by Unix BC, at the Montfort Stadium here.

The results: Quarterfinals: G.K. Moopanar BC 45 (Vijay Sharathi 10, Prabhu 10 Sundaresan 10) bt Sixers 20; Writer’s BC 45 (Syrus 12, Royson 10) bt United SC (Vellore) 31 (Murali 10, Poobalan 10); Railway Co-op BC 45 bt Lions BC 27; Indian Bank 61 bt St. Peter’s 35.
