Narrow win for Vizianagaram

VIJAYAWADA: Vizianagaram defeated Chittoor with a narrow margin of two points (24-22) in the men’s league match in the 33rd AP senior inter-district basketball championship at the Kruthiventi Peraraju Panthulu grounds, Ramachandhrapuram (East Godavari), on Sunday, according to information reaching here.

Defending champion Hyderabad outplayed Medak 30-10 in the men’s section and its women’s team outmanoeuvred Nizamabad 22-2.

The results: League matches: Men: Pool A: Hyderabad bt Medak 30-10; Pool B: Anantapur bt Vizianagaram 32-9, Vizianagaram bt Chittoor 24-22; Pool C: Khammam bt Guntur 25-23; Pool D: Vizag bt Warangal 53-28; Ranga Reddy bt Adilabad 32-21; Pool E: Kurnool bt Nizamabad 32-20.

Women: Pool A: Hyderabad bt Nizamabad 22-02; Pool B: Kurnool bt West Godavari 29-10.

Venue shifted

Andhra Cricket Association u-15 team’s conditioning camp scheduled to be held at Kakinada from October 18 has been shifted to Vijayawada. The camp will be held from October 20 at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium.

Badminton trials

Trials to select the men’s and women’s badminton teams of NTR Health University will be held at Gitam Dental College courts at Visakhapatnam on October 16 and 17. The selected teams will take part in the South Zone inter-university championship to be held at Mahatma Gandhi University at Kottayam from November 1.

AJ Kalasala posts win

Machilipatnam’s Andhra Jateeya Kalasala registered a seven-wicket victory over Mangalagiri’s VTJM &IVTR Degree College in the ANU East Zone inter-collegiate cricket tournament here on Sunday.

The scores: VTJM &IVTR DC: 117 in 30 overs (Shankar 30) lost to A.J. Kalasala 118 for 3 in 25.4 overs (Anil 50 n.o.).
