Autorickshaw fares revised

MADURAI: Autorickshaw fares have been revised in Madurai district.

According to the revised structure, a sum of Rs. 14 will be charged for the first 2 km and Rs. 6 for every additional km. A waiting charge of 40 paise will be collected for every five minutes. An additional 25 per cent of fare will be collected between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

In a press release, Collector S. S. Jawahar, who is also the Regional Transport Authority, said that the revised fares had come into effect from Wednesday. Owners of autorickshaws have been given six months time to fix electronic meters in their vehicles.

Existing electronic meters should be re-calibrated within 45 days and analogue meters should be replaced within 90 days.

Autorickshaw drivers have been instructed to prominently display the revised rates in their vehicles for the benefit of passengers.
