CHENNAI: CISCO hosted a workshop on networking at Anna University on Friday. CISCO conducts online networking certificate courses as a means to bridge the skill gaps that exist, in the field of networking, between the academia and the industry. Area Academy Manager (India and SAARC) Jagan Jothivel said CISCO has set up a Networking Academy (NetAcad) to address this aspect of education and to familiarise students with recent advances in technologies such as Voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP). “NetAcad is a partnership between CISCO educators, businesses, governments and community organisations around the world. The curriculum incorporates hands-on experience when teaching students to design, build and maintain computer networks,” he said. Wide reachAccording to Mr. Jothivel, NetAcad has a reach of over 160 institutions in India. Anna University acts as the regional centre for the Academy in Tamil Nadu. All the colleges and polytechnic institutions under its wing also able to benefit in this way.
