BANGALORE: M. Mahalakshmi of Tamil Nadu led the field in the girls’ section of the Under-9 National chess tournament here after the fourth round. Mahalaskhmi opened with the Queen’s Pawn and soon trapped Ankita’s knight to gain a piece advantage and win the game. Tamil Nadu’s C.K. Varsha caused an upset of sorts when she held Goa’s Ivana Furtado to a draw. In the boys’ section, Diptyan Ghosh, playing on the top board, beat Ashwat P. Hari of Tamil Nadu to share the lead with six other players including top seed Orissa’s Sidhanth Mohapatra after the fourth round. Sidanth beat Adarsh Srivastava of Uttar Pradesh.
