RAMANATHAPURAM:

Muslims in the district celebrated Id-ul-Fitr with religious fervour and gaiety on Sunday.

Many shops, which usually closed early, were kept open till late night on Friday and Saturday. The roads and markets were crowded following heavy rush for last minute shopping.

Mosques and houses of Muslims wore a festive look. Some houses were illuminated. People of other faiths exchanged greetings with Muslims thousands of whom attended a common prayer at Idgah Maidan. Prayers were held at Kilakarai, Sayalkudi, Paramakudi, Abiraman, Mandapam and other places.
