NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to remove all hoardings in the Capital which do not conform to the prescribed guidelines.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan said all orders passed by different civil courts granting stay on the removal of these hoardings would stand vacated.
“Major overhaul”
Reacting to the Court order, MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta said it would result in a major overhaul of Delhi’s hoarding displays.
“The order forbids putting up ‘unipoles’ within 75 metres of any road or crossing. The entire system of outdoor advertisement displays in Delhi stands to be revamped by this order.”
The MCD has been in the process of chalking out its advertisement policy since May this year.
