Held for cheating bank

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police have arrested a 40-year-old man on charges of forgery and cheating a public sector bank by furnishing fake documents.

In his complaint, the bank manager said B. Anand Saraf, a native of Kolkata, residing at Mogappair, had furnished fake documents of an immovable property at Saligramam to the Adyar branch of Union Bank of India and obtained Rs 9.92 lakh loan. Since he did not repay the loan, the bank had filed the complaint.

The accused had allegedly obtained loans previously of about Rs 1 crore from 10 banks and defaulted. There are eight cases pending against him.

He was detained in the prison on charges of forgery and cheating the banks.

The police arrested Saraf on Sunday. He was remanded to judicial custody, a release said.
