CPI(M) supporters held

Staff Reporter

THALASSERY: Three Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporters were arrested here on Monday in connection with the murder of a National Development Front (NDF) activist Mohammed Fazal on October 22, 2006.

The arrested were Sunil Kumar, who has been remanded to custody in the Central Jail here in another case, M. Jithesh and Biju, all hailing from Thalassery. The police said the special investigation group of the Crime Branch headed by Superintendent of Police Rajmohan called Jithesh and Biju for questioning at the Rest House here in the afternoon and arrested them. They were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and remanded till October 18. The arrest of the CPI(M) supporters followed an announcement of an agitation by the NDF demanding the arrest of culprits behind the murder. Fazal’s wife had filed a petition in the High Court on March 29 seeking a CBI probe into the murder.
