CHENNAI: A placement brochure of the Madras School of Social Work (MSSW), giving details of students’ profile to prospective employers, was released at a function here on Saturday. Senior executives in charge of recruitment of several companies participated. MSSW Principal Fathima Vasanth said the brochure’s release every year marked the beginning of a period, lasting around six months, in which students got placed in various companies and social service organisations. “Last year, we had 100 per cent placement … more and more companies are looking to our students because of the special skills they possess. The visibility of our students is also high with the growth of the NGO sector. As a result there is a good market for social work graduates. Students of our human resource management programme are also popular with the corporates,” she said. Founding director of Kubos Consultancy Services Vidya Murali said the MSSW students had an edge over MBA graduates when it came to HRM because they had also studied behaviour and development related subjects. Highlighting the significance of corporate social responsibility initiatives, Institute for Financial Management and Research director R. Kannan said more and more companies were looking for candidates with exposure in the area of social work.
