Sugumar shines for Adambakkam CC

CHENNAI: K. Sugumar’s spell of seven for 18 was instrumental in Adambakkam CC scripting a four-wicket win over Friends XI (Tambaram) in a first division match of the Kancheepuram DCA league recently.

The scores: First division: Kattankulathur 157 for eight in 30 overs (B.P. Jagadesh 83 n.o., Sangameswaran four for 31) lost to K.R.C 160 for four in 27.3 overs (Umapathy 42, R. Srinivasan 63 n.o., Srinivasan four for 35); Flakt India 318 in 39 overs (M. Sridharraj 70, S. Jagadish 60, P. Francis 86) bt Fine Star 140 in 32.4 overs (D. Srinivasan four for 28); Friends XI (Tbm) 161 for seven in 30 overs (K. Varun Kumar 81, E. Sundar 41, K. Sugumar seven for 18) lost to Adambakkam 162 for six in 27.5 overs (K.S. Vijayaragavan 65, N.P. Balaji 43).

Second division: Royal Gems 135 for six in 25 overs (Jacob 45, Sundaraman 57, Navneedan four for 13) bt Jain Combines 115 for nine in 25 overs (N. Vedanarayanan 41, Jacob five for 46); Palavanthangal 197 in 27.4 overs (Kumaraguru 53, Ramkumar 40) bt Facit Asia 102 for nine in 30 overs; Jain Combines 115 in 24 overs (Navneedan four for 31) lost to Blue Bird 116 for two in 14.3 overs (R. Sakthivel Murugan 55 n.o.).

Third division: Kasturi Estates 170 for nine in 30 overs lost to Syndicate Bank 171 for eight in 29.2 overs (Shivakumar 49).

Sports meet conducted

The SRM Nightingale Matriculation Higher Secondary School hosted the ‘D’ Zone sports meet for boys at the Ramakrishna Mission Main School ground (T. Nagar) here.

The individual championships winners were A. Sasikumar of CD Nayakam T. Nagar HSS (u-14), Dhananjayan of Ramakrishna Mission HSS (u-17) and K. Ganesh Kumar of CD Nayakam T. Nagar HSS (u-19).

Ramakrishna Mission HSS (u-14) and CD Nayakam T. Nagar HSS (u-17 & 19) bagged the overall championship.

Olympian, Charles Cornelius, former director of Sports Authority of India was the chief guest for the inaugural function.

Corporate cricket

The Bengal Tiger Line will conduct a corporate twenty-overs-a-side cricket tournament for its shipping customers at Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin, Tuticorin and Vizag. The tournament will commence in Chennai from October 13. The knock-out stage will take place in November.
