VOC College retains title

Tiruchendur: VOC College (Tuticorin) retained the title with a 3-1 win over host Aditanar College 3-1 in the final of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate (men) tennis tournament here on Sunday.

The results (final): VOC College bt Aditanar College 3-1 (Prakash lost to Kirubakaran 5-8; Sivakumar bt Karthik 8-1; Prakash & Sivakumar bt Kirubakaran & Karthik 8-5; Sivakumar bt Kirubakaran 8-7).

Semifinals: VOC College bt ST Hindu College (Nagercoil) 3-2 (Prakash bt Yoven 8-2; Sivakumar bt Rajesh 8-7; Prakash & Sivakumar lost to Yoven & Rajesh 5-8; Prakash lost to Rajesh 5-8; Sivakumar bt Yoven 8-4).

Aditanar College bt MDT Hindu College (Tirunelveli) 3-0 (Kirubakaran bt Mahesh 8-2; Joel bt Rameshkumar 8-3; Kirubakaran & Karthik bt Mahesh & Rameshkumar 8-2).

Mahendran impresses

At Dindigul, medium-pacer Mahendran’s six for 25, including a hat-trick, helped RVS Sports Club carve out a six-wicket win over Nike Cricket Club (Oddanchatram) in the Canara Bank-Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league on Sunday.

The scores:

First division: Nike CC (Oddanchatram) 111 in 17.5 overs (Mahendran six for 25, including a hat-trick) lost to RVS Sports Club 113 for four in 18 overs.

Majestic CC 201 for nine in 48 overs (R. Ganesh 80, P. Alagar four for 36) bt APCC (Pillayarnatham) 130 in 28.3 overs (R. Chandrasekaran four for 55).

Second division: Kodai CC (Kodai Road) 117 for nine in 25 overs (Sivabalan 57) lost to PSNA CET 118 for three in 18 overs.

Seeni Bala CC 135 for four in 24 overs (Rajkumar 41) bt All Rounders CC 116 in 21.4 overs (K. Saravanan 54, Rajkumar three for 16).

Third division: NPR Arts and Science College (Natham) 180 for five in 23 overs (B. Ansari 57) bt Warriors CC (Nilakottai) 162 in 21.3 overs (B. Anbu three for 37, V. Bharath three for 33).

King Dharma posts win

King Dharma Cricket Club beat National Engineering College by 10 runs in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli District Cricket Association second division league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: King Dharma 120 in 20 overs (Sundar three for 17) bt National Engineering College 110 for eight in 20 overs (Manikandan 37).

Ram Friendship CC 81 in 18.2 overs (Satheesh three for 14) lost to Wings CC 82 for two in 7.4 overs (Neelakandan 45 not out).

Easy for Sethu FC

Three goals by Prabakaran and a brace by Murugappan helped Sethu Football Club register a 5-1 victory over Vikram College of Engineering in the Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league, for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy, at Madurai on Sunday. Mohan Yogadev netted the only goal for Vikram College.

In another match, Acme Sports Club beat Nehru Football Club 2-0. Somasundaram and Senthil scored.

District chess

Sivagangai District Chess Association will organise the 15th annual district chess championship (u-7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and open categories) at the Muthiah Alagappa MHSS, Kottaiyur, on October 13 and 14.
