CHENNAI: Narain Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula One driver, hailed industrialist Vijay Mallya’s move to buy a 50 per cent stake in the Spyker team as “big for motor sports in India”, but he was tight-lipped about his future in the sport. “I’m talking to Spyker, I spoke to Mr. Mallya last week, and I’m also talking to Williams,” said Narain, who was at the Madras Motor Sports Track on Sunday. “I’m keeping my options open, but irrespective of whether I get into Spyker, I think Mr. Mallya buying into it is big for India. He’s influential and he has contacts, and that’s what it’s about at this level." Karthikeyan currently is a test driver for Williams; he also drives for the A1 Indian team in the A1 GP. — Special Correspondent
